WEEKLY INSECT BYTES for September 21, 2007 .

The insect pest control updates presented below are for the south-central part of Pennsylvania based on observations in Adams County, PA.

Current pest status:

  • The CM flight most likely will continue until late September, with continuous potential of new larvae. If a control treatment(s) may be warranted, then CM granulosis virus, which has 0 day PHI, should provide adequate control of CM;
  • The fourth generation Oriental fruit moth (OFM) adults are still present in many apple orchards. The OFM flight, if the weather continues to be warm, can last until late October. If necessary, broad spectrum insecticides such as Imidan, Avaunt, or neonicotinoid insecticides should provide good control;
  • Stink bugs and plant bugs may be feeding on maturing apple fruit. Broad spectrum insecticide application, if needed, should provide adequate control of these two pests;
  • The updated information with various insecticides Pre-Harvest Intervals (PHI) can be found in the August issue of the Fruit Times newsletter at: http://fruittimes.cas.psu.edu/FT2608.pdf
